Garth had a talent for realising the potential of a property \u2013 and the temperament to cope with renovations and moving.\u00a0 <\/span>The apartment in Rockwall, a comparatively compact place, had the essentials he wanted \u2013 a quiet position, northern light and views.<\/span><\/p>\n

Garth eliminated \u201cfunny angles\u201d and improved the flow by moving doors, adding walls and creating openings where there were none. He created a fluid space, elegant in form and content.<\/span><\/p>\n

He opened what was a narrow hallway to create an elegant entrance lobby and a trompe l\u2019oeil \u2018library\u2019 that disguises three doors: one to the main bedroom, dressing room and bathroom; another to a guest bathroom; the third to a powder room.<\/span><\/p>\n

Every home Garth owned had a fireplace \u2013 \u201cThey make a wonderful focal point to a room\u201d he would say \u2013 and if one didn\u2019t exist, he soon fixed that.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He loved gardening \u2013 and in lieu of a courtyard, Garth lined the balcony with large potted topiary. He found gardening satisfying and would say \u201cit\u2019s good to get your hands dirty\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n
