A relatively modern house, built on the site of a former panelbeating business was metamorphosised into a home with Garth\u2019s sensibility. The house was stripped back to the core but \u201cfortunately every room and bathroom was in the right position\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI like interiors to be classic and timeless,\u201d said Garth. \u201cI create atmosphere with architectural details\u201d.
\n<\/span>Outside he added window shutters and a stone portico. He planted the front garden with hedges, box topiary and a pair of bay trees, \u201csomething quite tailored and easy to manage\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Inside, he framed a square opening between the entrance hall and drawing room by adding a 19<\/span>th<\/sup><\/span> century<\/span> plaster frieze, originally a panel in a Paris apartment and designed an elegant wrought-iron stair banister which was made by Hans Schappi Metalcraft.<\/span><\/p>\n

The finished result was an interplay of old and new, objects and sculptural pieces from various periods and diverse cultural provenance alongside contemporary artworks. A shot of bright colour in the living room rug and stair runner is a surprise against the neutral backdrop.<\/span><\/p>\n
