Garth Barnett Scholarships
Garth Barnett was a self-made designer with a passion for giving back. He built a successful career in interior design through sheer talent, determination, and passion. Entirely self-taught, he not only established a thriving design business but also found great success in buying, renovating, and selling homes—turning each property into a reflection of his unique vision and style.
Despite not having a formal education himself, Garth deeply valued the power of learning and mentorship. He was passionate about supporting aspiring designers, and dedicated himself to encouraging and assisting students as they began their journeys in Interior Design and Interior Architecture.

The Garth Barnett Scholarships provide financial assistance to second-year undergraduate students pursuing a Bachelor of Design in Interior Architecture at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). These scholarships are awarded to students who show exceptional promise, creativity, and commitment to their future in interior design.
To be considered, applicants must demonstrate:
• A passion and talent for interior design
• A clear motivation to build a career in interiors through innovation and strong problem-solving skills
• Initiative and drive to grow both personally and professionally
• The potential for impact—how the scholarship would enhance their ability to complete their course and reach their full potential
• Demonstrated financial, social or personal hardship that the scholarship would help to alleviate.
Through this program, the Garth Barnett Scholarship Trust continues to empower students and nurture the next generation of design leaders. In addition to this, Garth’s legacy lives on through the opportunities he created for future generations to learn, grow and thrive in the world of design.
